Ever wondered what it’s like to work in the bike industry? Curious about what it’s like to write for a website like Pinkbike?

Rachelle Boobar is the global marketing manager for GT Bicycles, but it’s safe to say that if you asked a younger version of herself if she imagined that’s what she’d be doing, she’d say no!

After kicking off with a career in TV in Australia, Rachelle took a year to go travelling, discovered Whistler…and basically never left. Her decision to stay on after that first winter season and learn how to mountain bike led her on an incredible career adventure, working for Whistler Bike Park, testing bikes and writing stories for Pinkbike (and boosting its women’s cycling coverage) and finally this dream job at GT Bicycles.

Rachelle talks about what it’s like to work in the bike industry, shares some advice for anyone who’s thinking of giving it a go, and also sheds some light on what on earth is going on with the lack of bikes and parts at the moment.

She also talks about the arrival of her new baby son, what it was like cycling through pregnancy, and how his arrival has changed her perspective on riding.

That video…

In the podcast, we mention a certain crash video that went viral. Well… this is that video! (no mountain bikers were seriously hurt in the making of this film…which is frankly amazing)

Do good

Rachelle has named the Children’s Hospice South West as the charity she’d like to raise awareness of. The Hospice provides care to children with life-limiting conditions, and donations are hugely important to allow it to continue to do its incredible and important work supporting families. Every year, the Children’s Hospice South West runs a charity bike ride to raise funds, so if you love riding why not get involved! And if you can’t, do consider donating a few pounds.
