Episode 08: Katy Curd, DH racer, Fourcross World Champ and MTB coach

Profile photo of mountain bike coach and ex-racer Katy Curd

Katy Curd had an unconventional start in MTB racing, and her varied career has seen her have some brilliant (and sometimes hilarious) experiences, become Fourcross World Champion, and ride the UCI Downhill MTB World Cup around the world…

But it’s not all been highs. Katy has also experienced the devastating impact concussion can have on a racer, and shares candidly the effects it had on her and her career.

After her racing career came to an end, Katy became a full-time qualified mountain bike coach and her skills are in high demand. Hundreds of riders have benefitted from her expert advice (including Spindrift Podcast host Aoife!) and will know first-hand just how good she is. And it’s not just your average rider she coaches; Katy also coached Cross-Country MTB World Champion Evie Richards.

But whether it’s helping a beginner nail their first berm corner or giving a racer that 0.005 seconds extra pop of speed, she gets as much out of the experience as her clients do.

Listen in to hear how her riding got started, why she’s got MBUK Magazine partly to thank for her start in racing, her hilarious first championships race experience, and what she’s up to now.
